List of Software Used by Thomas

Note from Thomas: Below is the software that I am currently using in my day to day life.  Reviews are included.  :)

AOL 9.0

I use this for e-mail, and Microsoft Internet Explorer to surf the net.  I choose to use the browser separate from AOL because, let's face it, AOL's browser pretty much sucks.

Microsoft Word 2000

Not the latest version, for sure, but it was free, a gift from my mother who had more WORD CD's than she knew what to do with from buying all those laptops she has gone through.

Considering the price of the product, I was very thankful to get it.

Microsoft Frontpage 2003

Some of you may remember my older site.  It wasn't very well formatted but it was the best I could do with the Frontpage Express that came free with the computer.

God bless Lion of Judah Ministries for giving me Frontpage 2003!  This entire site was designed using that software, and I have done every page of it myself.  Couldn't be easier or more fun or enjoyable to do a site.

Microsoft Powerpoint 2003

Not much to report here, I use it for the same reason most people do, which is for seminars and presentations.  It does what it is supposed to do.

StoryView 2.0

This was a gift from a friend, and it is one of the best gifts I have ever received.  The pictures on Amazon don't do it justice.  Those are pics of the timeline view.  I have found the outline view to be very helpful in my writing.  Example, I wrote the Isis: Dark Goddess outline with it.  Here is a pic of the outline view with the outline I am working on at the time of this writing.  A novel called, New Day Dawning.

I recommend this product for anyone who wants to get serious about writing.  I am a much better writer because of it.

Hollywood Screenwriter

As you can see, this software didn't get the best reviews, and with good reason.  It is far from the best screenwriting software out there.  When I get more into writing screenplays, I will get something better.  Meanwhile, this is fine for what I am doing, which is writing three or four minute skits for the youth to do during church.

If you are doing something similar, you can't ask for better software than this.  However, if you are writing the next great multi-million dollar blockbuster film, you might want to try something else.

But before you pay that kind of money (good screenwriting software does not come cheap)  this is an excellent program to get your feet wet and to learn to do screenwriting.

Arcsoft Showbiz 2

This is another product with bad reviews.  Well deserved bad reviews at that.  Like most who have this, it came bundled free with my HP DVD Movie Writer.  (I'll get around to reviewing that for you eventually.)  The software is great at capturing video, but for the actual editing, it pretty much sucks.  It has none of the options that I want in making a DVD so I am limited in what I can do.

SONIC DigitalMedia Plus v7

Can't find a link for this one.  :(

This is stripped down version of Roxio Easy Media Creator.  It came free on my computer. Though it is not as powerful as Roxio, it does allow for burning audio and data CDs, which is what I use it for.  I make data and MP3 CDs.  I also make audio CDs of some of the presentations I have done.  (You can get those, by the way, by clicking here.)

Sure Thing CD Labeler SE v4

This is software for making CD labels.  I got it free with my Lightscribe DVD burner.  I use it when to make Lightscribe labels for my CDs and DVDs I make.  Lightscribe is still new, and has a long way to go.  But it has time to improve, and I am confident it will.

Audacity

I do a lot of audio editing.  And I have tried many commercial products to make this easier.  But none even come close to the FREE Audacity.  You can make WAV files, or add the free MP3 add-on and make MP3 files.  Cut, paste, edit, it is all there.  And all at no cost.  One of the best freeware programs ever.

MusicMatch Jukebox

Yeah I know that a lot of people hate this software, and I am not too fond of it myself.  A few years ago I bought an Archos Multimedia Jukebox (do NOT get one of these), and it came with a full, registered version of Jukebox.

I use it only for one thing, and that is to make MP3s off of my audio CDs.  It does this just as well, if not better than anything else out there right now.  As for the other features, well, there is stuff out there that can do better.

Yes I use other software from time to time, but over 90% (or more) will always be one of these.  I guess my needs are simple.  :)
